BLISTERS.

Blisters are one of the most common conditions on the skin of the foot, they can occur anywhere in the feet but are usually located over bony prominences. Excessive pressure and sheering stress causes a tear within the upper layers of the skin (the epidermis), forming a space between the layers while leaving the surface intact. Then fluid seeps into the space. Blisters are usually painful but with conservative care can be managed effectively.

Certainly the first line of defense for this condition is good supporting shoes which have a wide toe box and a low heel.

Other useful measures to prevent blisters are items such as reusable gel pads and adhesive paddings as well as orthotics (a device to redistribute the weight more evenly over the sole of the foot). In conjunction with protective paddings, daily use of a good foot cream will help to keep the skin soft and elastic.
